01 / Attention
Give the eye a place to land.
Movement can help someone notice a change or understand where to look. It also competes with everything around it. The question is what deserves attention, and what should remain quiet.
Try the movement
Compare the still composition with the moving one. The words keep their position while the surrounding shapes shift. In Respond mode, move over the panel or focus its button to see a brief change.
Each mode makes a different promise. A still composition is immediately available. Ambient motion sets a mood. A response connects movement to something the visitor does, making that relationship easier to understand.
02 / Restraint
A pause is part of the sequence.
A page needs moments of rest. A short transition can explain a change and then finish. Repeating the same movement forever can pull attention away from the next thing someone wants to read.
A closer look
Try the response again. The shape changes position and settles, leaving the headline readable throughout. The animation has a beginning and an end, so the panel becomes quiet once the change is understood.
The same principle applies to menus, galleries and product options. Motion can connect two states, but the resulting state should remain understandable after the transition stops.
03 / Character
Move like the rest of the site.
Scale, timing and the shape of a transition can give an interface a recognisable character. A restrained shift and a playful bounce can make the same object feel very different.
Consistency comes from a small set of deliberate choices. Reusing a duration or a direction can connect components without making every element perform the same animation.
04 / Choice
Make stillness work too.
The message should survive when motion is paused or reduced. Here, the static composition contains the same headline and shapes as the animated version.
This study respects the reduced-motion setting, pauses ambient movement outside the viewport and provides a Still control. Movement adds a layer to the composition; the words remain available in every state.
